questions, answered.

everything we get asked, in one place. if your question is not here, ask it at the bottom and you will get an answer from what we have actually published, or an honest "we have not decided that yet".

reserving a spot

the $1 reservation and the Kickstarter campaign.

the $1 reservation holds your spot for launch day. you get our best launch price, held for reservation holders first in limited quantity, and the campaign link by email the moment we go live, before we post it anywhere. it is a reservation, not a payment for syp, and it is fully refundable any time: email nicolas@syphydration.com and we refund it, no questions. you are not committing to back the campaign.

the waitlist is a free email list: we email you news, including launch day. the $1 reservation is a held spot: our best launch price in limited quantity, and the campaign link before we post it anywhere. the reservation is refundable any time. you can do either or both.

on the Kickstarter, a complete syp (puck plus sleeve) is $89 for the first 200 backers, then $99. our retail reference price after the campaign is $99. there are also a $10 digital tier that joins syp Nation, a $30 tier that gives you a $40 credit toward syp at launch, a 5-pack at $445 and a 10-pack at $890, both $89 per unit. add-ons are an extra syp at $89 and an extra sleeve at $19. shipping is not included in those prices; it is collected after the campaign in the backer survey.

the sensor puck, a silicone sleeve in black or white (you pick in the post-campaign survey), and the full syp app free for life. backers on the hardware tiers also get into the app beta in january 2027, a vote on our first sleeve colour, a numbered syppy badge, and an invite to the syp Nation community.

black or white for the sleeve on this first run, chosen in the post-campaign survey. backers also vote on which colour we make next. the 10-pack tier gets custom-printed sleeves in your own colour, logo or name.

kickstarter is all or nothing. our goal is $10,000, and if we do not reach it nobody is charged. anything raised above the goal goes into a larger first run, which lowers the cost per unit, and then into supporting more bottles and more countries.

you pledge during the campaign and your card is only charged if the project reaches its goal by the deadline. backing is not a store purchase: you are funding a product that is still being finished, which is why our dates are estimates and why we publish a monthly update on where things actually are, good or bad.

the product

how syp works, and what fits.

a soft silicone sleeve goes around your bottle and a slim sensor puck sits underneath it. when you set the bottle down, the puck weighs it. 1 ml of water weighs 1 g, so the change in weight between one time you set it down and the next is what you drank, and it goes to the app over bluetooth. there is nothing to press and nothing to log by hand.

syp fits bottles with a base 2.9 to 3.1 inches (74 to 79 mm) wide, which covers many insulated steel bottles and tumblers. most 32 oz bottles are too wide for this first run. we do not have a published list of tested bottles yet, so measure the base of your bottle before you reserve. if you are not sure, email us or ask in the Kickstarter comments and we will test yours.

yes, as long as both bottles are in the 74 to 79 mm base range. the puck is the part with the electronics, so you can move it between sleeves in seconds. an extra sleeve is a $19 add-on if you want one permanently on a second bottle.

wrist wearables like WHOOP and Oura estimate hydration from sweat and other signals, not from what you actually drank. smart bottles measure intake, but they require you to carry their bottle, which is a problem if you already own a bottle you like or your team has a sponsorship. syp goes under the bottle you already own and logs what leaves it, so you keep your bottle and still get the number.

weight is the one thing about water that does not need interpreting. sip counters and flow sensors have to infer volume from how long or how hard you drank. a scale under the bottle reads what is no longer there. it also means the measurement does not care what you are drinking or what bottle it is in.

one charge lasts about 1 to 2 days of active use, and we recommend charging overnight so it is always ready for training. the puck charges over USB-C and the battery is rechargeable, so there are no batteries to replace.

water-resistance testing is part of our certification step in january and february 2027, so we do not have a rating to publish yet. we will give backers the real figure once it is tested rather than estimate it now.

undecided. the light ring appears in our final design renders, but we have not committed it to the first production run. if it does not make it, we will say so before the campaign ends rather than after.

both, and we are careful about which is which. we have hand-assembled working prototypes: a load cell in the base weighs the bottle when you set it down and each drink arrives in the app over bluetooth. the app is in beta. the current prototype is taller and boxier than the final design, a black sleeve with the sensor built into the base, a USB-C port and two buttons. the slim sleeve with a separate puck underneath is where we are taking it, and every image of that on our site and campaign is labelled "final design render", not a photo of a finished unit.

the app and your data

what you see, and who else can see it.

it shows what you actually drank through the day without you logging anything, and your history over time. the app is in beta now and backers on the eligible tiers get access in january 2027, ahead of the hardware. the full app is free for life for backers, with no subscription.

not for Kickstarter backers. the full app is free for life on every hardware tier and on the $30 tier.

your intake data is yours. teams and programs only see data for athletes who opt in and authorise program-level visibility, and syp uses anonymised, aggregated data for research only, never sold and never shared with third parties without consent. our privacy policy covers each integration in detail, including apple health, WHOOP and oura, drink photos, and barcode lookups.

no. syp is not a medical device. it measures what you drank and shows it to you; it does not diagnose dehydration, set a target for you, or give medical advice. for how much you personally should be drinking, or if something feels wrong, talk to a doctor or your athletic trainer.

getting it to you

dates, countries and shipping.

april 2027, to backers in the united states. our Kickstarter campaign launches october 27, 2026, and between those two dates we have one more prototype round, production tooling, FCC and battery and water-resistance testing, and the first production run. the app beta comes earlier, in january 2027. if any step slips, backers hear it from us first in an update, with the new date and the reason.

not on this first run. april 2027 shipping is united states only, because canada and europe need their own certification first (CE/RED, RoHS, EU battery rules, UKCA). we would rather get those right than promise a date we cannot hold. if you are outside the US, join the list and we will tell you when your region opens.

shipping is charged after the campaign, in the backer survey, rather than at pledge time. we do not have a final US rate to quote yet. doing it this way means you are not charged a guess months before anything ships.

we build with a manufacturing partner whose production is in hong kong, introduced by our advisor avin samtani. our first engineering firm restructured and left before finishing the final phase; we kept every design file and the working prototype and moved on, and that partner built the prototypes you see now. because we own our design files we are not locked to a single factory.

teams and programs

for athletic departments, clubs and companies.

yes, and there is a page for it at /b2b, plus a pilot program. syp attaches to whatever bottle your sponsorship requires, so it does not conflict with a Gatorade or Powerade agreement. on compliance: syp is a passive device with no on-device coaching, which we believe keeps it clear of active-monitoring restrictions, but confirm that with your own compliance office rather than taking our word for it.

the company

who we are and how to reach us.

rima, mathis and nicolas, who all came out of the university of south florida men’s soccer program. rima was the team’s student manager and is our CEO; nicolas and mathis both captained the team. our friend luana, also a USF student, helps us with content. syp is built in tampa and operated by hauzi llc. in september 2026 rima pitched syp on stage at alibaba cocreate, where we were a top 20 finalist out of about 39,000 entries.

in october 2022, in mathis’s freshman season, a groin injury took him off the field at SMU. six months of rehab later he was cleared, and about three games into the next season the same pain came back. when he sat down with the athletic trainers to work out why, part of the answer was dehydration that had been building for months without anyone noticing. rima saw the same thing from the sideline every day: athletes told to drink more water, and nobody able to see how much anyone actually drank. sprint distance was tracked to the meter and sleep to the minute. water was a guess. so in 2024 we started building the thing we wanted back then, interviewed about 100 athletes, trainers and coaches, and taped load cells to a cutting board in a dorm room.

we have a provisional patent filed on the measurement approach. we do not publish the filing itself. for anything more specific than that, email mathis@syphydration.com.

email mathis@syphydration.com for anything about the product, the company or a partnership, or nicolas@syphydration.com for a $1 reservation refund. all three of us read what comes in.
